As a full-time Freelancer in NYC living on one income, I've had to get creative to stay ahead financially--self-employment taxes are a bitch. A few years ago, a friend introduced me to the wonderful wacky world of focus groups! I make an additional $1,500.00 - $2,500.00 a year that way, which allows me to go out to dinner with friends, go to movies, buy new cloths, etc. Some of the groups feed participants very well, mmm, pizza; others, not so much. I'm not crazy about sad soggy sandwiches...I've done groups on everything from food, wine, various products that have since been brought to market, movies and TV shows, and also services. The groups are always interesting and they either pay in cash or with gift cards!
