Wi-Fi Rocks

  • May. 25th, 2008 at 12:53 PM

I'm out on Long Island for the long weekend visitng my family.  I'm sitting on my bother's patio online on his new laptop via wi-fi!  The weather is perfect, sunny with a light breeze.  His dog is sitting at my feet!  REM's new album is playing on the iPod.  We're having a cookout later--the whole family will be here.

Life is good!  Enjoy the long weekend!

Happy Easter!!

  • Mar. 23rd, 2008 at 11:57 AM

I'm visiting my parents on L.I.  The Easter Bunny left me a basket full of my favorite candy:  Pastel Junior Mints, a small soid choclate bunny, Kit Kats, Carmel Eggs, and Jelly Beans!  My cat Scooter sat with me while I ate breakfast, so I could pet him!

The Easter Bunny has a gift for you!

One of my sister-in-law's brothers found more Easter fun last night after dinner...

Snowy Day

  • Dec. 2nd, 2007 at 2:58 PM

I love freshly fallen snow--it makes everything look clean and new--and the air smells crisp.  Everyone seems to take it easy when it snows.  I slept in, and then went out to buy a copy of Newsday.

I remember how my friends and I would make snow angles, go sledding down a really steep hill near my house on Long Island.  Snow Days meant a welcome break from school.  We also had our share of snowball fights...The morning after a blizzard, the snow was up to our waists and we all pitched in to make a snow fort that fit two people!  It had a window and an icicle fence.  It was our sanctuary for a week every afternoon, until we came back home from school and all that remained was a huge puddle.

Stay safe out there, everything is supposed to freeze up and remember, the yellow snow isn't lemonade!

Movie Madness

  • Nov. 25th, 2007 at 11:42 AM

I'm visiting my family on Long Island for the Holiday Weekend.  My brother, sister-in-law and I had a yummy Sushi dinner on Friday night.  Other than that, I've been catching up on my movies--I'm a relic--I don't have cable at home--I use rabbit ears to get reception, so it's always fun to veg in front of the TV.  This weekend I watched: Room 1408, Hostel, Mr. Brooks, and Snakes on a Plane.  All of them had fun moments, but I liked Room 1408 best of all, probably because I grew up reading Stephen King's novels--he's one of the reasons I became a writer.

I also really dig Dr. G Medical Examiner.  She investigates strange deaths; most of the time people didn't meet their maker the way you think...

Bubble Tea, Scooter and me!

  • Nov. 13th, 2007 at 8:29 PM

My Aunt, Uncle and Cousin paid me a visit this past Saturday night. We ordered take-out and watched Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, which was surprisingly good! On Sunday we drove down to Chinatown. It took us 30 minutes to find a parking spot, but it was worth the wait. We stumbled upon a Vegetarian market, where my relatives stocked up; being a hard-core carnivore, I settled for rice crackers. I went across the street to buy a steaming roast pork bun. Then we had honeydew bubble tea. The tapioca balls are really quite tasty, once you get used to them.

Sunday afternoon we drove to my parent's house on Long Island for Mom's delicious baked ziti and some good conversation.

Scooter slept next to me on the pull-out couch in the den; he's a big ball of love!  My Dad let him back into the room in the morning, where he curled up at my feet and purred when I woke up!

Here he is!

Sushi Park

  • Mar. 12th, 2007 at 5:36 PM

This past weekend, I went to visit my family on Long Island for my Grandma's Birthday.  On Saturday night, my brother treated me to dinner at Sushi Park; this restaurant in Commack has a wonderful selection of succulent sushi and sashimi, served buffet style!  We've been there twice and the food is excellent!  There's also a nice selection of hot food, but they're renowned for their sushi!

On the way to dinner, we went to the mall, so my brother could buy my Grandma a gift.  I asked him if we could go to Bath and Body Works, because I love their soap, but alas the Walt Whitman Mall doesn't have that store--I was shocked--I though all malls had the same cookie-cutter selection, so I got some really good soap at Williams Sonoma instead.

Grandma's Birthday Party was nice on Sunday, considering she's in a Nursing Home and kept nodding off.  Oh, well...
