Whirlwind Weekend

  • Jul. 2nd, 2007 at 8:12 PM

This past Saturday, [info]nickcato drove me and his crew to Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors in Secaucus, NJ.  He kept teasing me, because I'd never been to Staten Island.  Problem solved, 'cuz now I have!  We got there early and got it for free, since one of his friends selling movies downstairs got us in for free.  So I have Nick's friend a copy of Apple of My Eye to say thanks!   We enjoyed The Leisure Horror Panel featuring: Brian Keene, J.F. Gonzalez, [info]marysang, Deborah LeBlanc, and Michael Laimo; hosted by Editor Don D'Auria, but sadly there were only a handful of audience members.  I had my The Exorcist T-Shirt on and thought it was funny when the authors on the panel kept referencing The Exorcist!   Brian Keene had a beer on stage!  Classic Keene!!  Thanks again for the lift, [info]nickcato I had a blast!

Then Saturday evening I took the LIRR out to Northport, the town where I grew up to visit my parents.    I am cursed--whenever I was to take a nap on the train--we got a very early start for Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors--7:00 AM--I get stuck near people talking very loudly...These two old ladies were talking to a woman a few seats down, one of them said, "My son Michael sleeps on the train when he commutes to work."  I wanted to say, "Oh, kind of like what I'm trying to do." but that would've meant opening my eyes, which wasn't something I wanted to do, so I didn't say anything.  My Dad and I watched Pan's Labyrinth.  Wow, what a magical movie with some awesome special effects and a powerful story!

Sunday afternoon I sat outside on the patio to enjoy the great weather and read Stephen King's Novella, in Esquire,  The Gingerbread Girl.  I thought it was awful, I had to struggle to finish it.  Sunday night my parents, brother, sister-and-law and I went out to dinner at Legal Seafoods and enjoyed good food and great company!
